Best Places to Go Camping in Vietnam

Central Vietnam is filled with beautiful islands and lush jungles along the coastline. If you want to take a break from your hectic city schedule and go camping then, Vietnam has plenty of options for you.  However, be careful. You may not be interested in returning to the concrete jungle after spending quality time in these destinations.

Ranging from mountain passes to mammoth caves and serene islands, here are a few popular spots to go camping in Central Vietnam.

  • Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park- This park is popular for having the third largest caves in this world, i.e. Hang En and Hang Son Doong. While camping inside the Hang Son Doong cave for many days would be an awesome place. The government of Quang Binh permitted the tour operator Oxalis for organizing expeditions in the cave; visitors who want a cheap expedition with a short time waiting list can also book an excursion to Hang En. This park also has over 300 other caves, rice fields, grottoes and hundreds of karst mountains. While visiting this place, don’t forget to pack long-sleeved shirts, pants, and a bug spray.
  • Hải Vân Pass- Hải Vân Pass is one of the most attractive locations in Vietnam. The curvy roads near the coast and into the mountains are beautiful to watch. This pass joins two cities, Hue and Da Nang, and played a vital role during the Vietnam War by permitting the Viet Cong for transporting weapons and food from one corner of Vietnam to the other. Tourists can set up a camp at the top of pass close to the Hải Vân Gate. Get up early from sleep and watch the beautiful sunrise from the peak. Enjoy a bath in the neighbouring lagoon and waterfall.
  • Trung Luong- Situated 19 miles away from Quy Nhơn, a city that is popular for its astonishing islands and beaches, is Trung Lương beach. Local people love to do camping here as it is easy to set up a bonfire or barbecue in the night. You can also enjoy different kinds of water sports and snorkelling. The only disadvantage is that during the peak season, you might have to share your campsite. So, it is suggested to book a spot in advance.
  • Cu Lao Xanh- Cù Lao Xanh, a small island in the Quy Nhơn is surrounded by greenery and Turquoise water.  Swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing and beach barbecues are a few activities that you can enjoy while you are camping here.
  • Phú Quý- Another beautiful island, Phu Quy is perfect for those who want to get away from the busy economic centre that is Ho Chi Minh City. Nearly 75 miles north of the Mui Ne, this island has many things to offer. Set up your camp at Cao peak next to Linh Son Temple.  Do not miss the sunrise. Take a boat for rent and paddle to the small islets covering the area, including Hon Den, Hon Trung, and Hon Tranh. In this area, the water is so clear that the bottom is clearly visible.
